It's already been two weeks since I arrived in...INDIA!!!! Currently, I am in Pondicherry (southern India) drinking coffee on my hotel bed and BLOGGING! Part of the appeal of escaping to India was the..err..limited access to my world back at home via internet, but most of my Habitat for Humanity team members brought their iphone, ipad and laptop so what can you do but succumb to the temptation. Tis a shame that I didn't bring my cord to post pics sooner.
Today, I'm going to revisit a place called Auroville- a place/community designed with the intention of allowing people to reach divine humanity as a whole void of religion, culture, social influences. They have amazing organic food and hopefully I'll go antique shopping in the afternoon. This city has heavy French colonial influences so I can't wait to see what I find.
Anyhow, aside from the painfully itchy heat rashes all over my body (what can you do? I drink at least 3 liters of water everyday to compensate for all the sweating that occurs) Habitat for Humanity has been one of the best travel experiences I've had thus far! Truly no other way to experience a country and its culture. I knew 3 days in that India would be my favorite of all the 3rd world countries I've travelled to and I've been to a lot. That being said, there are times when it all starts to look the same- mainly in the country or driving down an empty road.
I've been busting my ass working like an Indian laborer but I already sent an email to my friends: I will return as a black Indian princess. ;) (or a sexy gypsy for Halloween. HAHA. yes, I bought my costume before I came)
In a couple days, I will start the last leg of my trip- a guided tour with strangers in northern India. Taj Mahal, ready or not, here I come! Interestingly enough, the two books I read to get myself "in the mood" take place in Bombay, the one major city I'm NOT visiting. I would, I would...
Since I know how boring blog posts without pictures are....I'm signing off!!!
i didnt find this boring at all!
